STAFFORD CANARY CLUB OF AMERICA
JUDGE CERTIFICATION

The applicant will contact the SCCA President to arrange for testing at the annual show.  The applicant shall have a background of experience breeding and exhibiting Staffords for three years.

The applicant shall be a SCCA member in good standing. The president will open a file for the applicant and record all pertinent information gathered during the certification process.

Each applicant must complete a written test and these two hands-on tasks at the direction of an accredited Stafford panel judge.
1.      Correctly classify six birds using the accepted Stafford classifications.
2.      Comparison judge and place at least three crested and three non-crested birds using the Stafford Standard and explain your reasons for placement.
The president will arrange for the test to be given and the tasks supervised and scored following the regular portion of the SCCA annual show.
The examiner will make a written report of the written test, the classification exercise and the sample comparison judging results.
This report will be sent to the president for the file. The report should note the score on the written test, the accuracy of the classification exercise, and whether the judge agreed with the placement on each of the birds comparison judged.
It may be that the judge will recommend that part or all of these items be repeated at a later date.  Those items satisfactorily done by the applicant should be noted.
The president will notify the applicant and the current panel of Stafford judges of the outcome of the testing and advise the next step to be completed.

When the written test and the two hands-on tasks have been successfully completed the applicant will then apprentice judge at least twice (at a show with 30 or more Staffords exhibits) under at least two different panel judges.
The judges will submit a written report to the president as to their assessment of the know-ledge level of the applicant.
The judge is to indicate whether further develop-mental work is required for the applicant to be certified as a Stafford judge; or, whether the applicant appears to be fully qualified to be certified as a Stafford judge.
The president will notify the applicant and judge panel of the outcome.

To add a new judge or remove an existing judge from the official list of Stafford judges the president is required to bring the matter before the Executive Board.
The president should present to this group the information in the file of the individual judge and an opinion as to whether the judge should be added or removed from the official list.
The vote of the Executive Board shall decide the matter.  The president is to notify the judge and the panel of the decision.

Once certified, a Stafford judge is expected to maintain membership in SCCA, maintain active involvement with the breed thru breeding, exhibiting and/or judging Staffords.
At the direction of the president,  judges will be encouraged to participate in programs designed to further education and judging expertise.
If a judge does not maintain membership and an active interest in the breed he may be removed from the judge list at the discretion of the Executive Board.
